Peel, slice and cook apples in a little water and extra sugar to taste (should not be a lot of liquid). Turn into a casserole dish and allow to cool a little while preparing the crumble topping. (If using fresh berries or fairly well-drained canned/preserved fruit, put the casserole dish and fruit in the oven to pre-heat).
Combine the flour, sugar and coconut in a bowl, roughly chop the butter into the mixture and rub all together with your fingertips until crumbly (keep your fingers cool or the butter will soften too much and the mixture will stick together - add a little more coconut and flour if needed, to make it more crumbly).
Sprinkle the crumble mixture on top of the warm fruit, and bake at 350° for about 30 minutes, or until topping is golden. Serve warm with cream/ice cream.
