Quick and Easy Bolognese Sauce

Kath and Chris

My own adaptation!

  • This is a ‘kid proof’ adaptation of Judy’s recipe (see Book 1), modified to suit my fussy children and my time constraints. It feeds 4.

    • 1 onion, chopped finely (so they can't find it)
    • ½ kg lean minced beef
    • Splash of Worcestershire sauce
    • 1 tin tomato puree (so they can’t find any bits of tomato)
    • Dried basil, dried oregano to your taste (substitute with fresh herbs once your children will tolerate ‘green things’ in their food – this may take 15 years or so!)

Fry the onion in a little margarine until cooked to a golden colour. Push the onion to the edges of the frypan and turn the heat up to high. When the pan is hot add the minced beef, and turn regularly until the meat is browned. Turn the heat down again, and add the Worcestershire sauce, tomato puree and herbs, and mix through. Turn heat to very low and place a lid on the frypan. Cook the sauce for 10 minutes or for however long it takes the pasta to cook.

Serve with pasta, OR as a jaffle filler, OR on a pizza base (see Josh’s recipe for Kakadu Pizza)
